As I once said, TZ was the "water cooler" show of its day, the one that would lead to discussions the next day among people who saw it, just as shows like Seinfeld and The Sopranos became in the last few years. At the public school level it was more of a "water fountain" show, but I still remember talking about this particular episode with my friends when I was in sixth grade.

We were smart enough to realize that the suspicions that grew between the married couples were totally groundless. For example, if Connie is the suspected Martian, then where's the real Connie? With the bus driver's identification of Ethel, pure logic reduces the number of possibilities to two: Avery (Jack Elam's character, identified as such only in printed references) and Ross.

At that age we thought this episode was "neat" (or whatever slang word we were using), and this still seems to be the prevailing opinion. Nevertheless, I find it disturbing that a primarily humorous episode kills off nine of its eleven characters, all of whom have merely been going about their innocent business, leaving behind the two least deserving survivors.
