This is one of my favs from the 80s series. I remember discussing it with my friends in middle school. One of my buddies even drew a sketch of the Kentucky Rye bar for art class. (Luckily, the teacher got the reference!)

The moment in which everybody turns quiet in the bar... "Hey, I OWN THIS BAR!" is very unsettling, as the place was such a raucous fun joint just a few seconds before.

The former bar owner (the old man), reminded me a little of Freddy Krueger at the end when he says "IT'S ALL YOURS" then laughs sinisterly. It's a very creepy scene that I recalled vividly after all these years.

However, I didn't understand the presence of the victim's wife. If we assume that all the patrons of the bar are deceased drunk drivers or victims of those same drivers (a safe assumption), then why would the victim's wife be there? She is confirmed as alive at the end when she is speaking to police.

That's my only gripe however.

I wonder if the Kentucky Rye building seen at the end (when the cops say it's an eyesore) really existed, or was it just a simple set piece constructed for the show?

Any idea why it wasn't shown in syndication? Was it deemed to intense, like "Nightcrawlers"?

On a side note, that actor that played the original bar owner, Phil Bruns, recently passed in February of this year, at the age of 80. R.I.P. Phil.
